PRESQUE ISLE FARM
2019 FALL SALAD SHARE MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT

In becoming a member of Presque Isle Farm you are agreeing to share in the risks and rewards of growing food in northern Michigan. The membership model is built on trust. You as a member trust us to do our best to supply you with a bounty of fresh, wholesome, organic produce. We feel a great sense of responsibility toward our members and pledge to do everything we can to ensure this abundance. The nature of farming is unpredictable and catastrophic losses are possible. In any given year, certain crops are going to do well and others may not. There are many ways that we as farmers can help mitigate risks. These include growing multiple plantings of a diversity of crops, as well as making use of tools such as irrigation, greenhouses, and refrigeration. The most important way we can mitigate risk is by continually working to improve the condition of the land. A healthy soil produces quality crops more consistently and is much more resilient to variable weather patterns than is an impoverished soil. Farm Share Membership is a great way to get connected with your food, with the land, and with your community. By sharing in the risks and rewards of farming, you are helping to provide a stable foundation for local farmers. This will allow us to continue to take care of the land and to grow healthy food for the local community for many years to come. Thank you!

This agreement outlines our shared commitments to this relationship. By purchasing a Salad Share Membership, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined herein. Please retain a copy of this agreement for your records.

Growing Practices
We believe in providing fresh, seasonal, local veggies from our farm to your home. We believe people should have a relationship with their food, one that gives back to both you and the land. We believe in transparent farming practices and being open and honest about all inputs used on our farm.  We are certified organic and everything we use is OMRI approved. We welcome any inquires about our growing practices. You can also read about the process here: https://www.usda.gov/topics/organic

Shared Risk
As a Share member, you will have the priority of our delicious produce. During this time we will only be selling our surplus at the Alpena Farmers Market and to restaurants. Our priority will go to you, the share members. Remember, this is a SALAD share; so if greens and lots of salads is not your preference, this is not for you

We have based our availability list on past years’ yields and data, so we are confident that our production will come through. However, we are farming and unforeseen weather and events can arise. We will do everything we can to get you veggies every week. Members of our Salad Share Program get the opportunity to share in the abundance of a local northern Michigan farm. With that opportunity there are risks associated with our growing season. We are committed to minimizing those risks, yet risks will always remain. We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share worth $25-35 each week. The quantity of produce, however, may vary from week-to-week due to extreme weather, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our Salad Share, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and our other members.
In the unlikely event of crop failure: If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your box with other crops grown on the farm that are ready for harvest at that time. Please take this into consideration when joining the Salad Share.
